The state of Florida requires that parents with minor children who are getting divorced (or who are going through a paternity case that involves issues of parental responsibility) attend a seminar specifically designed to help them make healthy choices regarding their children. The parties don't have to
attend together. (and course attendance can be excused by the court for good cause) Hopefully the parties can learn to be peaceable, especially
when children, who need to get through the divorce too, are involved.

Here's some information from PDR (Positive Divorce
Resolution) that should be helpful. It's a 4 hour one session course
and 18,000 people have taken it since 1993. (and in Broward County
call Positive Parenting Through Divorce for registration information.

Positive Divorce Resolution (PDR) is a course
designed specifically for parents who are considering divorce
or separation, or have initiated some court action involving
their children. This legal action may include divorce, change
of visitation or primary residence, modification of financial
support, or any other change in a prior dissolution of marriage
order. PDR is a first step toward resolving the conflict,
and establishing personal and parental boundaries.
In the course, parents will explore communication patterns,
goals and commitments. They will also learn new skills for negotiation
and the effects of parental conflict on children. If parents do become
involved with the legal system in an effort to reach a solution, PDR,
or a course like it, will be required for both parents.
Benefits to parents and children include: reduced conflict,
better communication, safety, increased contact between parents and
children, reduced stress, teamwork, better adjustment to divorce and
a more supportive environment during the stages of loss and grief.
Courtrooms were never designed to solve family problems. Generally,
the tools available to the legal system only make those problems worse.
Parents who have skill and commitment are in the best position to
help themselves and their children.

they meet the requirements for parent education in the State of Florida
according to Section 61.21 Florida Statutes
